Create Your Account
Visit https://wix.com and click Get Started. Sign up with email or use Google, Facebook, or Apple. Wix is free to start, and you can build unlimited sites on the free plan (with Wix branding and a wix.com subdomain). After signup, Wix asks what kind of site you’re creating: business, portfolio, blog, or online store. You’ll then choose between Wix ADI (AI-generated site in minutes) or Wix Editor (manual drag-and-drop control). For learning, start with ADI to see what’s possible, then explore the Editor for full customization.
Set Up Your First Project
If you chose Wix ADI, answer a few questions about your business and style preferences. ADI generates a complete site with text, images, and layout in under two minutes. You can customize everything after. If you chose Wix Editor, pick a template from 900+ options, filtered by industry and style. Once inside the Editor, you’ll see a drag-and-drop canvas with a left sidebar for adding elements (text, images, buttons, galleries) and a top toolbar for design settings. Wix is fully visual: no code, no complex menus, just click and design.
Build Your First Page
Click any element to edit it. Text boxes open inline for editing. Images can be swapped by clicking and uploading new files or choosing from Wix’s free image library. Add new elements by clicking Add in the left sidebar: choose from hundreds of widgets like forms, social feeds, video players, or interactive maps. Drag elements anywhere on the canvas for pixel-perfect control. Wix automatically creates mobile versions of your pages, which you can customize separately by toggling to mobile view at the top. Adjust spacing, colors, and fonts using the design panel that appears when elements are selected.
Connect and Publish
Preview your site by clicking Preview in the top-right. Test both desktop and mobile views. When ready, click Publish. On the free plan, your site goes live on a wix.com subdomain. For a custom domain, upgrade to a premium plan, then go to Settings > Domains and connect or purchase a domain. Wix handles DNS setup and SSL automatically. After publishing, you can edit your site anytime and republish with one click. Wix also offers built-in SEO tools: go to Marketing & SEO > SEO to optimize meta tags, URLs, and sitemaps.
