Start Your First Project
Click Create a design in the top right corner and choose a format: Instagram Post, Presentation, Logo, Flyer, or enter custom dimensions. You’ll land in the Canva editor with a blank canvas and a sidebar full of templates, elements, photos, and text tools.
Browse the Templates tab on the left for pre-designed layouts. Click one to load it onto your canvas. Every element is editable: swap images, change colors, rewrite text. Use the toolbar at the top to adjust fonts, alignment, and spacing.
Build Your First Design
Start customizing. Drag and drop images from the Uploads tab, or search the Photos library for stock visuals. Click any text box to edit copy, then use the toolbar to change font, size, color, and effects like shadows or outlines.
Add shapes, icons, or stickers from the Elements tab. Everything snaps to guides for clean alignment. Use the Background tool to change canvas color or add gradients. If you’re on Pro, try Magic Edit or Background Remover to refine images with AI.
Experiment with layers: right-click elements to Bring to front or Send to back. Group related items together so they move as one unit. Keep your design balanced and avoid clutter.
Export and Share
When you’re happy with the design, click Share in the top right corner. Choose Download to export as PNG, JPG, or PDF. Select your file type, quality, and whether to include bleed or crop marks. For presentations, export as PDF or PowerPoint.
You can also generate a shareable link with view or edit permissions. Use Present mode to pitch slides directly from Canva, or embed designs on websites. Canva also lets you schedule social posts directly to platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
