Prospecting Tool

CRM & Contacts Intermediate Updated Mar 7, 2026

Built-in lead generation with Google Maps bulk search, marketing audit reports, and lead status tracking for finding and qualifying new business prospects.

Prospecting Tool

The Prospecting Tool is GHL’s built-in lead generation system for finding and qualifying new business prospects without leaving the platform. Search Google Maps by keyword and location, run automated marketing audits on any business, track lead status through Open/Won/Lost stages, and convert qualified prospects into sub-accounts. Available at both agency and sub-account levels, with an embeddable widget for websites.

What the Prospecting Tool Does

Search for businesses using Google Maps integration. Enter a keyword (e.g., “plumber,” “med spa,” “roofing contractor”), set a location, and choose a radius up to 30 miles. Results return business names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, and Google ratings. Add up to 15 leads at once from a single search to your prospect list.

Each prospect gets a marketing audit report that evaluates their online presence. The standard audit covers Google Business Profile completeness, review count and recency, website performance, and social media presence. Premium tier adds SEO reports, Core Web Vitals analysis, and point-of-contact data including email addresses and direct phone numbers.

Lead Status and Pipeline

Every prospect moves through three statuses: Open (new lead, not yet contacted), Won (closed deal, ready for onboarding), and Lost (declined or disqualified). When you mark a prospect as Won, you can create a sub-account directly from the prospect record, connecting lead generation to client setup in one step.

Filter prospects by status, tags, date added, and custom criteria. Assign tags during or after prospecting to segment by niche, location, or deal stage. The filtering system lets you build targeted follow-up lists without exporting to spreadsheets.

Sub-Account Level Access

Agencies can enable the Prospecting Tool at the sub-account level. This means clients or team members working inside a sub-account can prospect independently using the same Google Maps search and audit tools. Control access through permissions to decide which sub-accounts see the prospecting interface.

Embeddable Prospecting Widget

Add a prospecting widget to any website. Visitors enter their business name or URL, and the widget runs a marketing audit automatically. Captured leads flow into your prospect list with their audit data attached. Use this as a lead magnet on agency websites, landing pages, or client-facing portals.

Guided Onboarding

New users get a guided onboarding flow that walks through the first search, explains audit reports, and demonstrates lead status management. The onboarding covers connecting Google Maps, running a sample search, reading audit scores, and converting a prospect to a contact.

Pro Tips

  • Start with a narrow radius (5-10 miles) and a specific keyword. Broad searches return too many results to work through effectively.
  • Run audits before outreach. Leading with “I noticed your Google listing has no reviews in the last 60 days” is more compelling than “let me tell you about our services.”
  • Use the Won-to-sub-account conversion to eliminate manual setup. Every won prospect becomes a configured client account automatically.
  • Tag prospects by niche during the search phase so you can batch your follow-up calls by industry.

Common Questions

What is the difference between standard and premium audit reports?

Standard audits cover Google Business Profile, reviews, website performance, and social presence. Premium adds SEO keyword rankings, Core Web Vitals scores, and point-of-contact data (emails, direct phone numbers). Premium requires an upgraded plan.

Can I use the Prospecting Tool inside a sub-account?

Yes. Agencies can enable prospecting at the sub-account level through permissions. This gives team members or clients independent access to search and audit tools without needing agency-level login.

How many leads can I add from a single search?

Up to 15 leads per search. Run multiple searches with different keywords or locations to build larger prospect lists.

Does the embeddable widget work on any website?

Yes. The widget generates a code snippet you can add to any website, landing page, or funnel. Visitors enter their business info, the audit runs automatically, and the lead appears in your prospect list.
