Email Campaigns

Email Campaigns deliver one-time broadcast emails to targeted segments at the time you choose. Build your message in the drag-and-drop editor, select your audience with Smart Lists or tags, then send immediately, schedule for later, or use Smart Send to automatically pick the best time based on engagement data. Unlike workflow emails that fire based on triggers, campaigns are manual sends built for announcements, promotions, and newsletters.

What Email Campaigns Do

Campaigns give you full control over design, delivery, and tracking for broadcast emails:

Campaign builder: Start from scratch, select a pre-built template, or load a saved design from Marketing > Emails > Templates. The visual editor includes drag-and-drop content blocks, personalization tokens, mobile preview, and Email AI for subject line and copy suggestions.

Delivery options: Send immediately, schedule a future send time, throttle large lists with batch sending, automate blog-driven newsletters with RSS scheduling, or use Smart Send to analyze 60 days of engagement data and recommend optimal send times.

Audience targeting: Select recipients by contact lists, Smart Lists, or tags. Add exclusion lists to prevent specific contacts from receiving the campaign. Contacts with DND enabled are automatically filtered out.

A/B testing: Test subject line variants on a percentage of your audience, define winner criteria (open or click rate), and the system automatically sends the winning version to the remaining contacts.

Analytics dashboard: Track delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, unsubscribed, and spam complaint metrics. Smart Send campaigns show engagement lift compared to your baseline.

Key Configuration Options

Smart Send: Navigate to Marketing > Emails > Campaigns, create your campaign, and click Send or Schedule > Smart Send. Click Get Recommendation to see the suggested time based on your audience’s historical engagement. Requires 1,000+ emails sent in the past 60 days.

Batch sending: For lists over 10,000, configure batch size and interval to spread delivery over hours. This prevents ISP throttling and maintains deliverability.

UTM tracking: Enable on the Send or Schedule screen to append campaign parameters (source, medium, campaign name) to every link. Data flows into Google Analytics for traffic attribution.

Link tracking: Automatically track clicks on every link in the campaign. View click-through rates and identify which links drive engagement in the Statistics tab.

Version history: Click the three-dot menu in the campaign editor and select See Version History to restore previous drafts when multiple team members collaborate.

Power Features

Email AI assistant: Dock the edit panel to access Email AI, which generates subject lines, rewrites body copy, and suggests CTAs based on your campaign goal. Speeds up content creation without leaving the builder.

RSS scheduling: Automate blog-driven newsletters by connecting an RSS feed. Set check frequency (daily, weekly, custom) and the builder pulls the latest posts into your template at send time.

Attachments: Add PDFs, images, or spreadsheets up to 10 MB directly from the Send or Schedule screen. Use for pricing guides, case studies, or resources.

Template conversion: From Marketing > Emails > Templates, click the three-dot menu next to any template and select Create Campaign to pre-load the design and start sending immediately.

Pro Tips

  • Use Smart Send when eligible to maximize open rates without manual testing. The algorithm learns your audience’s behavior and schedules accordingly.
  • Segment ruthlessly before sending. Targeted campaigns to engaged contacts outperform full-list blasts by 2x to 3x in open and click rates.
  • Keep subject lines under 50 characters and front-load the most important words. Mobile inboxes truncate long subjects, losing your hook.
  • Always send test emails to yourself across Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail before launching. Check formatting, links, and personalization tokens.
  • Name campaigns descriptively with date and topic (e.g., “2026-03 Spring Promo”). This keeps your campaign list organized when you have dozens running.

Common Questions

What is the difference between campaigns and workflow emails?

Campaigns are one-time broadcasts sent to a list or segment. Workflow emails are triggered by events (form submissions, tag changes, pipeline movements) and run as part of multi-step automations. Use campaigns for newsletters and announcements. Use workflows for behavior-driven sequences.

Can I reschedule a campaign after it has been scheduled?

Yes. Reschedule any campaign up to one hour before its scheduled execution time. Open the campaign, click the scheduling details, and choose a new date and time.

How does Smart Send work?

Smart Send analyzes 60 days of engagement data (opens and clicks) to recommend the best send time for your campaign. It requires at least 1,000 emails sent from your location in that period. After sending, the dashboard shows engagement lift compared to your baseline.

What happens if a contact is on multiple recipient lists?

The platform automatically deduplicates recipients. Each contact receives the campaign only once, regardless of how many selected lists they appear in.

Can I test the campaign before sending it to my full list?

Yes. Use the Preview and Test Email features inside the email builder. Test emails show exactly how the final email will render. Unsubscribe links do not function in test emails.
